About Dropping Lines
"Holding space for writers to write."
My name is Sandra and I am an AWA Writing Workshop Leader. I started Dropping lines to give anyone who wants to write a place for it. You don't have to be a writer, you just need to want to write. These workshops are based on AWA's core belief of every person is a writer, and every writer deserves a safe environment in which to experiment, learn, and develop craft.
I hold an MFA in Creative Writing, and one of the things that bothered me most when going through the program was how writing wasn't really taught as a skill or how to make it better. It was all centered around critiques and the usual lessons of voice and theme...the same ones you learn in High School English.
After graduation, I set out to help writers to learn how to cultivate their writing without fear of red pens. This is where AWA (Amherst Writer's & Artists) workshops come in. Every leader runs their workshop a little differently, but the promise of the all workshops is this: positive feedback is just as important as negative.
We all know our writing could be improved, but rarely do we get a chance to have someone tell us what we did works. In Dropping Lines, we only talk about what works, what we did right.
